Think people are fed up with Washington? You’re right!

These statistics, while i suppose not all that surprising, are truly remarkable. I mean the country is just fed up…plain and simple. Not sure what will come of this…but at some point you have to imagine the pendulum will have swing too far and will begin to swing back (we can only hope so).

What’s more, a whopping 93 percent believe there’s too much partisan infighting; 84 percent think the special interests have too much influence over legislation; nearly three-quarters say that not enough has been done to regulate Wall Street and the banking industryRead more at www.msnbc.msn.com

The United States of Corporate America

I'm not going to criticize this decision because quite honestly, i don't have the Constitutional expertise to judge it. But i do believe that corporations have a disproportionately large influence on government affairs and this decision seems like it will perpetuate that reality. The good news is that the rise of social media is giving a voice and power to the ... read more

The Supreme Court has given big business, unions and nonprofits more power to spend freely in federal elections, a major turnaround that threatens a century of government efforts to regulate the power of corporations to bankroll American politics.Read more at www.cnn.com

Wall St. bonuses offend White House advisor. Please…talk is so cheap!

Personally, i'm more offended that people like this go on tv talking about how offended they are about things they don't have the courage to deal with. If she's so offended by the insanely large bonuses on Wall Street, why doesn't she advise her boss...the President of the United States...to do something about them. My goodness, they play us for such fools. Th... read more

Putting an end to loud television commercials

This is such a great move. California Congresswoman Rep. Anna Eshoo authored the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, or CALM, which mandates that TV commercials be no louder than the programs in which they appear. Amen to that!! URL:  politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

The Democrats have lost the source of their passion

This point by Paul Krugman is so true. Many people who voted for Obama, including myself, did so primarily out of hope that his spirit and belief in change deserved a chance to succeed. My candid perspective is that his spirit began to diminish during his swearing in and has continued to dissipate ever since. It's hard to understand and very frustrating...but ... read more

Meanwhile, the Democratic base, so energized last year, has lost much of its passion, at least partly because the administration’s soft-touch approach to Wall Street has seemed to many like a betrayal of their ideals.Read more at www.nytimes.com

“a bitterness has infected our politics that has weakened our country…”

Amplifyd from www.huffingtonpost.com
The President was right to fly to Copenhagen to try to land the games, not for the sake of his city, but for the good of his country. The fact President Obama failed makes me respect him more for taking the chance, and the fact many right-wing figures opposed the President’s mission shows just how narrow-minded partisanship makes us all.

For the better part of 20 years, a bitterness has infected our politics that has weakened our country.

Fortunately, there are a growing number of Americans who believe we cannot continue going on this way.

Some excellent commentary by Joe Scarborough, including a fresh, non-partisan perspective on President Obama’s attempt to get the Olympic games in Chicago.  I hope/believe that those who follow this approach to politics and partisanship will emerge as the powerful class in Congress.  I fully understand that right now those who talk loudest and criticize most harshly get the spotlight.  But i think most Americans are pretty tired of it and desensitized to it.

It seems to me that most people are looking for leaders who will vigorously and rationally debate the issues - but do so in a way that shows that country comes before party.

Republicans are doing a better job leveraging twitter (via @GOPLeader)

President Obama did a masterful job in utilizing the social nature of the web during his campaign…but it seems undeniable that the Republicans are now doing a better job leveraging the innate capabilities of social media to rally people around their ideas and spread their message.

They developed a following and prompted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin to call Twitter “the new gathering place for conservative activism.”

Kudos to the Republican New Media Caucus for embracing social media in govt & politics (h/t @boblatta @gopnmc)

Below are excerpts from Mashable’s interview with Congressmen Bob Latta, Rob Wittman and John Culberson, all members of the Republican New Media Caucus.  I give a lot of credit to them and others in Congress who are participating in the conversation and embracing the openness that is afforded by social media.  I think our country will be better for it.

How Has Social Media Changed Politics?

Congressmen Wittman was the first to answer my question, and his answer boiled down to one word: immediacy. Simply put, he believes that social media has pushed the debate over major issues into real-time.
Congressman Latta had a slightly different answer, which can also be summed up by one word: information. Specifically, Congressmen Latta believes that social media has placed a lot more information at the fingertips of citizens. Read more at mashable.com

Officials and Rabbi’s in NJ support that notion that everyone is FOS

Major bust in NJ…nothing like leaders in politics and religion showing the rest of us how the world really works…glad to see them get busted.

Amplifyd from news.yahoo.com
The mayors of three New Jersey cities, two state legislators and several rabbis were among more than 40 people arrested Thursday in a sweeping corruption investigation that began as a probe into an international money laundering ring that trafficked in goods as diverse as human organs and fake designer handbags.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation initially focused, with the help of the cooperating witness, on the money laundering network that operated between Brooklyn, Deal, N.J. and Israel. The network is alleged to have laundered tens of millions of dollars through charities controlled by rabbis in New York and New Jersey.

We want propserity and we want it now!

the House Minority Whip also says in Saturday’s address that “President Obama’s economic decisions have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity, and have not worked.”Read more at politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

Come on now…isn’t it a bit premature to be claiming that President Obama’s decisions have not worked.  And isn’t it a bit absurd to be complaining because we don’t have “prosperity” back.  I really think this notion that prosperity is an entitlement for Americans is ludicrous.  We had our prosperity and we got drunk on it…and now we’re paying for it.  The idea that we can just have it back seems like a load of you know what.

I have no idea if Obama’s economic decisions will prove to work or not…but i do know that politicians who are already ranting and raving that they “haven’t worked” are doing nothing to help the country.
