The quote above is from @biz. I just don’t see this being twitter’s problem. i can’t imagine a simpler, more straightforward service than twitter. I genuinely believe that people who don’t use twitter don’t use it because they’re not interested in what it does…not because they don’t understand what it does.

E,
I feel that @biz is trying to address a major problem for their business - the fact that many users sign on and have one tweet. I know a bunch of folks in this camp.
7 months agoi agree with your Chris. just don’t think it’s because they don’t understand. think it’s because they do understand and don’t care. i honestly think twitter might be smarter focusing on maintaining a very tight, loyal user base than trying to morph into a mass medium application. the new twitter101 page i read is ridiculous.

7 months agoHow many people create an account, post “Trying to figure out what this Twitter thing is all about” and then abandon their account because they don’t know what’s next. It is a super simple app, but it often takes a month of using it before the value and usefulness becomes evident.

7 months agoAndrew, that’s definitely a fair point, though i think most of the confusion stems from a “who cares, why would i want to do this” more than a “oh, i just didn’t understand.” twitter’s approach seems to be to get people to join so they can see what all the celebs are talking about - which takes a lot of the emphasis off their original messaging which was to connect with friends, family and co-workers. To me, if twitter kept to that focus, everyone might see the utility in it…but if it’s all about @aplusk, etc. i don’t know. And this knew push aimed at get companies on board is even further away from their original intent. Personally, i think they’re taking too much for granted and are assuming people will stay no matter what. if it continues to become inundated with marketers, my sense is that people will get fed up and leave.
